100th Day of School

Today was the 100th Day of School! We had a fun, wild n crazy, counting up a storm, froot loop kind of day! We made necklaces out of 100 froot loops, decorated our 100 head bands, separated 100 straws into groups of 10, did 100 exercises, put our balloons into order from 10 - 100 (counting by 10s), and we released 100 balloons into the sky and watched them float away! It was a wonderfully, perfect day in KinderLand! I have so many pictures from today. I try to get a lil of everything!!!

Hundreds Chart

This week in KinderLand we worked on using Hundreds Charts to count by 2's, 5's, and 10's. The students were thrilled! Every morning at calendar time we have songs to sing about skip counting. So the kiddos have already learned how to skip count and now they get to color it in on this hundreds chart. Pure joy on their faces! I love teaching them how to do something in a way that is only fun for them. They had no idea how much they were learning by singing those awesome songs!

I Can Read!

With this new quarter we have really began focusing on reading. We begin by learning our short vowels: a, e, i, o, u. For each vowel we learn some new words to read. The students have been learning how to blend sounds and they are doing a great job! If they tell you about the "Ferris Wheel" that is our song we use to blend.

Today we worked on the short vowel e. The students did fantastic! Here is our Slide A Word. This is a great tool to work on reading with your kiddos!

Another BIG thing happened today! One of the kiddos read his FIRST big book to me!!! He was SO ecstatic and wanted to tell all the other teachers! I'm so proud of him!

Maps, Maps, Maps

Today we looked at MAPS! The kiddos are very fascinated with maps so they were more than excited when I brought out the stack! We have previously learned how to find Arkansas so that was the first thing they did. They also located North America and the United States of America. Our task today, however, was to find land and water on maps. They did great but I knew they would.

Today in KinderLand . . .

We had some special visitors!
Iron Man and Optimus Prime took some time off from saving the world to join us. . .

The Snow Whites were able to leave their dwarfs for a little fun . . .

A beautiful Princess danced for us . . .

All the way from Kansas, Dorothy joined us and decided there is no place like home . . .

Lightning McQueen's Pit Crew was able to take a break from work . . .

Spongebob traveled all the way from his pineapple under the sea. . .

Our very own Hannah Montana's got all jazzed up to party with us . . .

Making it back from space just in time for some fun, our Astronaut. . .

Our proud supporter and great Cheerleader . . .

The whole Super-Star Gang!

We had a GREAT Costume Party today!!! The kids had a total blast dressing up and showing off. We watched movies throughout the day and enjoyed a WHOLE day with no school work. Even through all the fun they remembered that they are the ones that worked hard and earned this party. We have already begun our next 50 A's chart! Who knows what the next item of fun will be . . .

Journal Writing

Today we started writing in our journals. Every morning when the students first get to school this will be what they independently work on. I will have the journal message written on the SmartBoard and they will get out their journal and copy it. We will also read the message together as a class. We are starting with only one sentence and as they progress we will add more. When they finish their daily message, they take their journals to the "Journal Table" and pick a sticker for their entry. I think they are most excited about getting to pick out a sticker! :-) By writing in our journals we are practicing many things: capitalization, punctuation. correct letter formation, complete sentences, vocabulary, spelling, and reading! I love how many things they are working on when they are doing such a simple task!

I took a few pictures of them today hard at work with their journals!
