#0 and Writing our Name

We had a great 2nd day of school! We are still reviewing the rules and procedures of kindergarten. I'm impressed at how well they are picking it all up!! :-) Today we practiced writing our name and we are learning about the number 0.

 They loved their name page because they get to use markers and a "magic" eraser! Hehe! The key is just having laminated paper! Students think they are playing again while really learning how to write their names!

Getting Ready!

It's that time of year when I spend my days in my classroom getting it ready for my new group of kiddos! I always decorate my room with the monkey theme and I just love when they come out with something new to match!! Plus this year I am busy changing all the things from Miss Austin to Mrs. Geels! Quite enjoyable! :-) 

Name Change!

Miss Austin is now Mrs. Geels!

As different as it will be . . . I am now Mrs. Geels! If you are in my class this year we will be learning the new name! :-) I am very excited to find out who my new group of students will be. I'm ready for another GREAT year! I am headed to the Learning Oasis (teacher store) tomorrow morning to buy some supplies. Starting Monday, I will be working hard in my classroom trying to prepare for my kiddos!

Turtle, Turtle!

Our classroom pet is a sweet lil red-eared slider turtle named Shortie! The kiddos LOVE it! So when B brought in a turtle shell, they were beyond thrilled! I don't let them touch Shortie so getting to touch the shell was pretty awesome! Thanks B!! :-) You made our day! 

Saturday School

Today was a bit different since it was a Saturday and we were at school. Due to our snow days we decided to go on Good Friday and also today, plus the first week of June. 

Today we worked on our new spelling words (set #5), read and AR tested on books, did some pages in our handwriting book, and learned a new reading/picture game. The kiddos are always excited to learn and play a new game. They have been doing really good with reading and I felt that they were ready to play! They grouped up with a partner and separated their cards, pictures on one side and words on the other. Then they matched the word to the correct picture. They did AWESOME! Not to mention that they loved it. There is a lot of cards and I had them in smaller groups so that it would be easier to manage. Kiddos worked on the game for 30 minutes! 

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

Today is the 107th birthday of Dr. Seuss! The kids were very excited to celebrate his birthday. We read a few books (going to read more all week) and did some fun activities. I think the kiddos were most excited knowing that if he were still alive that he would be 107 years old! 

We did a rhyming activity and made words that rhyme just like the Dr. Seuss books! :-)
